چکیده
Dissolution of stoichiometric multi-component particles is an important process ocurring during the heat treatment of as-cast aluminium alloys prior to hot extrusion. A mathematical model is proposed to describe such a process. In this model equations are given to determine the position of the particle interface in time, using a number of diiusion equations which are coupled by nonlinear boundary conditions at the interface. This problem is known as a vector valued Stefan problem. Moreover the well-posedness of the moving boundary problem is investigated using the maximum principle for the parabolic partial diierential equation. Furthermore, for an unbounded domain and planar coordinates an analytical asymptotic approximation based on self-similarity is derived. Moreover, this self-similar solution and the asymptotic approximation are extended to the vector valued Stefan problem. The approaches are compared to each other and the asymptotic approximation is used to gain rapid insight into the innuence of all components on the dissolution. Subsequently a numerical treatment of the vector valued Stefan problem is described, analysed and compared to the analytical methods. Finally, an example is shown. Note: The paper will appear in 1998.

Development of a Mathematical Model for Prediction of Pollutants Emission in D. I. Diesel Engines
Major pollutants emission from Direct-Injection (D.I) diesel engines are predicted by means of a mathematical model. In order to construct such a model, an integral Multi-Zone Combustion Model (MZCM) is formulated, which basically consists of jet mixing and combustion submodels. In MZCM, variation of injection pressure is considered. Also time period of ignition delay is predicted by considerin...
متن کاملImprovement of Methanol Synthesis Process through a Novel Sorption-Enhanced Fluidized-bed Reactor, Part I: Mathematical Modeling
In the first part of two section paper, a mathematical model of the fluidized bed reactor in the presence of in-situ water adsorbent for methanol synthesis is assessed. The bubbling two-phase regime is applied to model the fluidization concept. The binary adsorbent and catalyst particles system can be separated from each other based on their density difference. The heavy catalyst particles tend...
متن کاملA mathematical model for the dissolution of stoichiometric particles in multi-component alloys
A general model for the dissolution of stoichiometric particles in multi-component alloys is proposed and analysed. We introduce the concept of mass-conserving solutions and give a self-similar solution for the resulting Stefan-problem. Furthermore, we show that particle dissolution in multi-component alloys can under certain circumstances be approximated by a model for particle dissolution in ...
متن کاملEffects of Spray Drying and Spray Chilling on Ibuprofen Dissolution
The formulation of hydrophobic drugs for oral drug delivery is challenging due to poor solubility, poor dissolution and poor wetting of these drugs. Consequently, the aim of this study was to improve the dissolution of a model poorly water soluble drug, ibuprofen. Microparticles containing ibuprofen were produced by spray drying and spray chilling technology in the absence/presence of a ...
